If they come to your facility for one on one, you are looking at covering their lodging, food and a couple of grand on top of that. However, if a reseller was doing exactly what Chris is doing and open to everyone and it covers a lot crammed in a 2 or 3 days, you are looking at anywhere between $500 to $700.
Although being current would be the most beneficial, but when resellers see that people are using the older versions, they do still help them out as they are familiar with the older versions and what work around to do to accomplish the same thing.

I didn't catch that stipulation with software version in Chris' post. The company that makes the software does offer free webinars and/or at their facility (or hotel now since they are inbetween facility moves) training, but it is basic only and only open to those that have the most current version of their software. $3,500 will either be $1k over a very good home version of the same software or $500 shy of the entry level commercial version of the same software.

Now in my world, our full version (or "Pro" version if you will) costs around $15k. I appreciate your time in reading my reply and anything else you can add to make the training more beneficial or to make our service to the sign community better would be appreciated. There are costs we need to cover just to be able to provide this service to the general sign public. The next thing the class we are offering is in our own facility not at in Hotel or something of this nature but if it was this would be an additional cost to have this course not to mention other marketing activates, such as mailing and promoting the class, direct mailing costs etc, plus the cost of the instructor etc. If you look at the costs for other rips such as Caldera and Onyx and Wasatch you will see they are in this same price range but they are only a Rip not a piece of design software as well. To start with FlexiSign Pro is not just a piece of design software but it is a RIP as well. However, once you look at some of the factors in the cost charged for this course I think you may have a different perspective. To start- I can certainly see how you might feel this way, if I had paid out $3,500.00 or more for software I might have the same view as has been expressed in your posts.
